Nicole Baker Fulgham graduated from the University of Michigan with a B.A. in English. She joined Teach For America and taught fifth grade in Compton, California where she led her students to the highest academic gains of any fifth grade class in the school district. Nicole pursued her doctoral studies at the University of California at Los Angeles, focusing on urban education policy and teacher preparation.
During graduate school, she started a community youth program that served over 1,000 children weekly in urban Los Angeles. After completing her Ph.D., Nicole worked for the Council of Great City Schools as a policy analyst. She joined the national staff of Teach For America and served as the Vice President of New Site Expansion, eventually becoming the Vice President of Teacher Preparation and Support--where she was responsible for training and supporting 4500 teachers annually. She is currently the Vice President of Teach For America’s faith community initiative, which focuses on inspiring communities of faith to eliminate educational inequity.
Nicole regularly speaks at national faith-based and social justice conferences and has published numerous articles about educational equity. She is on the board of several non-profit organizations, including Faith In Public Life – which engages national faith communities in issues of social justice and the common good.
